From the Inbox— One More Thing to make Classroom Management a Breeze...

Dear Reader,

I know some of you might already know this and use it and some of you might already know this but don't use it, and a few of you might not know about it at all, but let me tell you something that has revolutionalized my classroom management over the past six or seven years!

Classroom jobs!

I know! It sounds so simple, but simple things DO actually work!

If you don't know about classroom jobs, basically, anything that you don't need a college degree for, you need to delegate to students. And oh, boy, what time saver it is!

Classroom jobs have always been part of the elementary classroom, but only in the past decade or so have they become more popular in middle and high school.

What kind of jobs do you ask?

Anything from collecting and passing out papers, running errands, copy-maker, guest-greeter, lights person, Google Assistant (if you have one of these in your classroom, if not, what are you doing??!!), library manager—keeps your books neat and tidy, calendar changer—I always forget to change the date, floor cleaners, board erasers, etc.

You can do a Google search to find a whole list of jobs. Here is a recent list from my classroom job list, but it's ever-changing and evolving! Find the jobs that work for you and go with them!

Why this works? Because it makes students part of the classroom, as part of a team, as part of a community with shared responsibilities rather than just students who keep the chairs warm for an hour.

If you haven't already tried classroom jobs, put it on your TODO list for the new year.

If you have, what types of jobs are on your list. Please share with me!
